Kee Company was founded in Tokyo in 1996.  Throughout its history the group consisted of a variety of incredibly diverse and talented artists, and produced four full-length performances in Tokyo, as well as numerous shorter works and arts events.

Its mandate: “to create work which explores human mythology and bridges cultural gaps. With a focus on the Pacific Rim, Kee Company does cross-cultural, multilingual productions blending different theatrical styles and tradition.”

Kee comes from the Japanese “ki” which means breath, spirit or inspiration and the English “key” which is used to unlock doors. The spelling was chosen so that neither the English nor Japanese meanings were immediately obvious prevalent. The idea was to reflect complex meanings and multiple cultures within a single simple word.
